Salma Hayek had her first major Hollywood performance in Robert Rodriguez's Desperado. Later her fame grew with Frida and an Academy Award nomination. Hayek also has a background working in the field of television. She was the producer in charge of Ugly Betty, one of TV's most popular series. Early Life Salma Hayek Jimenez was born on the 2nd of September of 1966 in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico and is being the daughter of the Spanish mother and a Lebanese father. Hayek was raised by the wealthiest of Catholic family. The convent she attended aged 12 in Louisiana and then lived in Houston along with her aunt throughout her teenage years. After a brief stint at a university in Mexico City after which she walked out of school to pursue a profession in acting, eventually becoming a telenovela star in her homeland of Mexico. Her first role in film, Hayek's move in Los Angeles was in 1991. She was determined to improve her English to be a Hollywood actor. After a couple of small projects and a few roles, she was then offered a lead role opposite Antonio Banderas in 1995's Desperado.
